Travel Questions
-
What city should we fly into?
We recommend flying into Milan via Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP). From Milan, it is a little over an hour to Como on Lake Como.
-
When should I book my flight & hotel?
As September is on the cusp of high season on Lake Como we suggest booking your flight and hotel 9-12 months prior to the wedding.
-
Do I need a passport?
Yes, and make sure it does not expire within 6 months of travel. Currently it is taking longer to receive new passports so we suggest starting the process a year in advance.
-
When should I arrive in Lake Como?
We're kicking the week off with Welcome Drinks on Monday and suggest that all guests depart the US on Saturday, arriving in Milan on Sunday. However, if you prefer to arrive Monday or Tuesday, please feel free to do so however you will be responsible for transportation from MXP.
-
What part of the lake should we stay on?
We strongly recommend staying in or near Cernobbio, where the ceremony, reception and surrounding wedding events will take place. While you could stay anywhere in the center part of the lake, such as the other cities of Varenna or Bellagio, you will be responsible for your own transportation to the venues. There are private water taxis for hire around the lake.
-
Can I use my cell phone in Italy?
Please be sure to inform your cell phone provider that you will be traveling to Italy to avoid any surprise charges. Usually they can provide you with an international day pass option (AT&T and Verizon’s are $10/day for unlimited calls, texts, and data).
-
What will the weather be like?
75° / 55° - Lake Como enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate with pleasant temperatures and sunshine all year. September is at the end of peak vacation time to travel to the area with hot and sunny weather perfect for lake activities. Bring plenty of swimsuits! The evenings might cool off...we recommend bringing sweaters or shawls. The summer months are humid and have the possibility of rain. Bring an umbrella just in case.
-
Where is the closet train station?
If you are traveling to nearby areas in Italy and Switzerland, we recommend Milan Centrale train station. You can take train trips to Rome (about 3 hours), Venice (about 2.5 hours) as well as Florence, Cinque Terre and many other locations. You can catch a train to Milan Centrale from Como's San Giovanni station.
-
Can I use my credit card in Italy?
Please inform your credit card company that you are traveling PRIOR to departing the US - this will prevent it being locked due to fraud speculations. If your credit card comes with no foreign transaction fees, that'll be a HUGE plus! You'll be able to use your card like normal without having the card company charge you a fee or percentage for foreign purchases. We also suggest bringing Euros with you as many taxis and small cafes do not accept cards. You can get these at your local bank or AAA. We suggest doing this before you leave the US as airport currency exchanges usually have significantly worse rates than banks.

Our ceremony and reception is Black Tie - floor-length gowns, tuxes or black suits. We would love if everyone participated in wearing our wedding palette.
